Roof renovation: pitfalls to avoid!

Roof renovation has never required so much caution due to the lack of manpower. These are difficult times. Unfortunately, the labor shortage is not helping to resolve the situation. Because of this, the price of materials has skyrocketed. Since the labor shortage in the renovation sector is taking its toll, construction materials have seen a 10% to 20% increase as of March 2020. This is not to mention transportation costs, which have doubled or even tripled, rising from 200% to 300% of their initial cost.

In addition, 66% of people during the pandemic decided to undertake renovations, compared to 50% in normal times. Roofers' incomes are no exception to this rule.

That is why we will be discussing tips to avoid any inconvenience when hiring a roofer during this period of soaring prices.

Conduct thorough research

Hiring a roofer requires a lot of caution, as there are so many companies today that it is very easy to get ripped off. So, we will examine what the research phase entails.

First, you need to find out about the roofers' reputation. In other words, the impression they give to the public through their services. Several factors can determine the quality of the service provider, including customer reviews on each roofer's website. Google Maps can be a good alternative for reviews, complaints, and resolutions.

A contract also specifies the physical location where the company will be working during this time and mentions that two types of insurance are required:

  • Civil liability.

  • Workplace accidents.

This way, both you and the roofer will be insured in case someone is injured during the repairs/renovations.

In addition, roofing companies must provide a warranty for their work, disclose the warranties offered by the various manufacturers, and confirm whether or not they are transferable between owners. In this case, the current repair is in line with a home improvement recommended by the broker and the visit by the inspection services prior to the sale of the home. Finally, comparing different roofing companies remains the best way to make up your mind.
